The Lantern of Light was started at the end of August 2003 by Madge Summerfield, Corrine & Brian Packebusch (who still serve the Lantern and the Beacon as visiting Mediums) together with Mary Harvey helping with the refreshments, Malcolm Putland & Lesleigh Badgery joined the team the second week as the centre's registered healers. With the departure of Madge, Corrine & Brian in July 2004 due to family and outside commitments, Malcolm & Lesleigh were invited to take over the running of the centre, to keep this service open in the heart of Mid Sussex which they now do. Additional support then came from Garry Sanders, Ian Brough, Mick & Jan Bassett.
With a passion for healing, the Sacred Space Healing Centre was added to the Lantern of Light. The format has changed over time. In the beginning we were limited with just a few songs to sing, now we have a choice of sixty modern songs which have been chosen for their spiritual content, ranging from the early part of the century to modern present day songs, many of which have been in the charts. Singing is known to be mentally stimulating and raises the vibrations which enables the mediums to work better and provides a great deal of upliftment to people.
In January 2005 Bryan & Jenny walked through the door, they were interested in the Spiritual Healing that we regularly mention in the notices. Both experienced this and now Bryan is shortly to qualify as a registered Spiritual Healer. Bryan offered his services as our librarian, diligently looking after the books. A Crystal Angel Spiritual Shop has been created at the centre, selling Angelic items, Oracle cards, Crystals & more of a spiritual nature. Rod always helps fill in areas that need covering and has offered his home for the meditation group.
As this centre is for the people, many more are willing to offer their services should the main team not be available, People like Peter, Jenny, Jenni and Dianne to name but a few.
We feel we have now established the Lantern as a warm, welcoming & loving spiritual centre with a lot to offer those who cross the threshold and a vision to do our best to uplift anybody who chooses to visit us. People come from as far a field as Essex, Kent, Pagham, Bognor Regis, London and Hastings just to be with us for the evening. With local support and those who choose to visit us, from afar including, Australia, America, France, Spain, Malta and Holland, all are able to have an enjoyable evening with like-minded people. Now with the new web site people are finding us worldwide.
Visitors who have passed on to the world of spirit since the centre began are remembered in the Forget-Me-Not book on our healing table at the centre.
As time has gone on, some people were asking to hear the philosophy from spirit, so Malcolm & Lesleigh created the Beacon of Light a Divine Service which is held on the last Sunday of the month in the nearby village of Keymer, Hassocks, West Sussex at the Beacon Centre, The Workshop, Ockley Lane, Keymer, Hassocks BN6 8QJ with different mediums taking the service each month. Also the Sacred Space Healing Centre has grown to offer a weekly Drop-in Healing Clinic at the same venue in Keymer, additionally to the healing offered at the Lantern on a Saturday night. In the background Lesleigh can also be heard on the phone giving people helpful advice, explanations and guidance.
A relatively new addition to the services offered is the Travelling Lantern with venues currently held monthly in the towns of Lewes and Steyning.
